Whoopee! With the official opening of the Fourth Western China International Fair for Investment and Trade (WCIFIT) in Chongqing on July 22, a pair of pink and blue cartoon figures showed up on the exhibition site, attracting the attention of many exhibitors from home and abroad.

它们就是在本届西洽会首发的吉祥物——“西宝”和“西妹”。
They are the mascots firstly introduced in the WCIFIT– "Xi Bao" and "Xi Mei"!
这对可爱的吉祥物取自“西洽会”的“西”字，寓意西洽会是承载内陆开放的重要平台。“西宝”是一个热情的帅小伙，颈戴花环，身穿蓝色外衣，向大家挥舞右手；“西妹”，是一个活泼的小辣妹，同样佩戴花环，身穿粉色连衣裙，向大家张开怀抱。
The shape of the lovely mascots is abstracted from the Chinese character "西(West)" of "西洽会" (WCIFIT). It means that the WCIFIT is an important platform for China's inland opening-up. Xi Bao is an enthusiastic handsome boy, wearing a garland on his neck and a blue coat, and is waving his right hand to everyone; Xi Mei is a lively little girl, wearing a garland and a pink dress and is opening her arms to the public.

据说吉祥物身上有着贵州元素。是在哪里呢？
It is said there are some Guizhou elements on them. Where is it?
答案就在它们佩戴的花环上。
Here comes the answer: the garlands on their necks!

“西宝”“西妹”脖子上戴的花环取自西部十二省、自治区、直辖市的代表花卉。其中，“西妹”花环上的杜鹃花代表着贵州，此外还有代表内蒙古的满山红、代表广西的桂花、代表四川的芙蓉花、代表云南的茶花、代表*的龙胆花。
The flowers of the garlands are representative of each twelve areas in western China. For the one on Xi Mei's neck, the azalea is on behalf of Guizhou while the rhododendron stands for Inner Mongolia, osmanthus for Guangxi, hibiscus for Sichuan, camellia for Yunnan, and gentian flowers for Tibet.
“西宝”颈部花环，则由陕西—百合花、甘肃—郁金香、青海—郁金香、宁夏—马兰花、新疆—雪莲花、重庆—山茶花组成。
As for the other one on Xi Bao, lily stands for Shaanxi, tulips for Gansu and Qinghai, magic aster for Ningxia, snow lily for Xinjiang, and camellia for Chongqing.

值得一提的是，运用西部各地的花环元素，也寓意着让合作之花、友谊之花绽放世界各国。同时，花环也寓意着美好生活、万象更新，寄言洽谈会签约成功，并作为仪式呈现。
The use of the floral elements from different areas is a wish for the blossoming of cooperation and friendship for all countries in the world. Being a symbol of a better life and brighter future, the garland also delivers the wish for the success of all the deals on the WCIFIT and will be presented to the guests at the signing ceremonies.
