1965年11月14日早上10点48分，陆军中校海尔摩尔跟他带领的400位战士深入越南的死亡之谷，遭遇2000位北越士兵的包围，“英雄本色” (Braveheart)金奖提名编剧兰道尔华勒斯编导，梅尔吉勃逊领衔主演，“与狼共舞”金奖摄影、“拯救大兵雷恩”场景制作设计、“英雄本色”制片班底通力合作的电影《我们是士兵》真实重现这段美国历史上壮烈的战事之一，全美2002年3月首映周即勇夺票房排行冠军。合演的明星还包括“大地英豪”女主角麦德琳史道薇、“爱在心里口难开”奥斯卡提名男配角葛雷格肯尼尔、“美国派”克里斯克林与“Felicity”金球奖最佳电视影集女主角得主凯莉罗素。
